Addicted to Tea

I just want to get a couple of things straight about homestuck real quick.

*Edit: I rethought the bit about the writing because of the messages. It’s different and in my opinion more accurate.

1. It’s writing fluctuates in excellence. It’s good and fun and fine and all, but you have some parts which are beautiful and amazing, and then he goes and makes characters like Gamzee who is just a plot device. That’s not good writing. Also the plot as a whole is a jumbled mess.
2. It’s incredulously complex. It’s gone past Zelda timeline level complexity in my opinion, and that is just begging to be welcomed into the void.
3. It’s really fucking long. There are some good things about this and some bad things, but Jesus Christ. It’s almost as long as fucking Lord of the Rings.
4. The ships are always sinking. I mean, Homestuck has the most complex romantic structure I have ever seen anywhere ever, but nearly all of the relationships are abandoned early on. I hate that with a passion.
5. It’s good. GO FUCKING READ IT NOW. I don’t care, it’s long, it’s complex, it’s badly written, and if you’re a shipper, you’ll have a really bad naval record if you know what I mean. BUT. It’s good and fun and you should fucking read it.

Here is my theory as to why Homestuck is so popular when it has so many flaws: it’s our dream. We all want to get sucked into a video game, this can be proven with the success of Tron. Homestuck not only shows us an amazingly cool universe that’s run with video game logic, but it has regular kids going at it. It’s what I like to call the Nathan Drake clause. Uncharted is popular because A) it’s awesome, and B) Nathan Drake climbs shit like an ACTUAL PERSON. I mean if you’ve played Mirror’s Edge, Assassin’s Creed, or Prince of Persia, you understand that there’s no way in hell you could do that shit. Nathan Drake climbs like he’s an actual human being and any of us could do the same climbs. and THAT. THAT is what makes Homestuck so popular. It shows us that any of us could save all of existence if we happen to be lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. I mean fucking john is like, he sits in his room all day, HOW FIT DO YOU THINK HE ACTUALLY IS? But he still gets to be badass. And that is why Homestuck is so fucking popular.
